Sixhours Photography
August 22, 2008

Perhaps I’m drawn to sixhours photography because she’s a fellow Mainer. I consider myself a Mainer at times even though I only lived in Portland for a year. I bet the locals would disagree with my classification. At any rate, I’m drawn to the nostalgia of America in the good ole days that permeates her photos. There are themes of memory and work at play that draw me in like a moth to a flame.

Oh she is fantastic – I may have to purchase some her stuff, when I have walls to put it on!I also feel as if I somehow contributed to this post, what with Mainers and all.
Thank you so much for the feature! I’m so glad you enjoy my photographs.Even I am not considered a true “Mainer,” despite having been born and raised here. Both my parents are “from away,” which means I’m “from away” by default. It’s a tough crowd to bust into, apparently.
mscleaver – you def contributed. I had no idea that it was so hard to be a mainer before you explained. caroline – I say that rules are made to be broke, so go ahead and call yourself a mainer.
these pics are gorgeous. i love a manual typewriter–it reminds me of my dad, who was a journalist, click-clacking away at it while chain smoking pall malls. manual typewriters seem so intimate to me, if you know what i mean. in order to use one, you have to work really hard, so whatever you’re writing has a certain value, a closeness to you. right? once i found an old manual typewriter on the street that had islamic letters on the keys. it was amaaaaaaaazing. i took it, and loved it, loved looking at it. and then i got evicted from my apartment and it was sadly left behind. i wish i still had it.
thank you for sharing these incredibly moving images. LOVE.
