100 Abandoned Houses by Kevin Bauman
August 25, 2009
With an eye for urban decay, Kevin Bauman endeavored to document 100 abandoned houses in the Detroit area. Many remind me of the boarded-up and falling down houses in Trenton, NJ. My grandfather frequently takes me on drives through Trenton, pointing out where the bars were (noting the second entrance for ladies since they were only allowed in the backroom!), where his friends lived, his first girlfriend’s home and what was considered professional row – where all the doctors and well-to-do lived. It’s heartbreaking to look at these decrepit houses and buildings that were clearly once so beautiful and grand. I just want them restored.

i'm originally from detroit…and these pics and stories just make me sad. so much beautiful architecture and so many beautiful homes just left to decay. i took my kids to see my childhood home 3 years ago….we drove by and i just cried….
i've seen some of these images before and they are so terrible and beautiful at the same time. hopefully, one day some will be saved
